This year is a reset year for the Wofford program. After last years odd coaching drama, Wofford seems like they’ve landed on the guy, Dwight Perry, as head man. He retained important pieces and brought in some new guys who should be contributors after losing top scorers Jackson Paveletzke and BJ Mack. Its going to be hard to predict where Perry can lead these guys, but if it goes well, Wofford always threatens for the NCAA Tournament.
Returning Players
Corey Tripp - 6’3 G
Last Season Avgs: 30.1 min. 8.8 ppg, 3.3 rpg, 1.9 apg | Tripp took a tremendous sophomore leap in minutes, and his output should jump even more this year. With the departure of Jackson Paveletske to Iowa State, theres some room on hte box score for Tripp to be the teams leading scorer. If he ends up on the ball more often, the assist numbers will rise as well.
Jackson Sivills - 6’6 G
Last Season Avgs: 17.9 min. 4.5 ppg, 2.7 rpg, 0.6 apg | I expect Sivills to increase his role and be a very important player for the Terriers this season. He’s shown flashes, and scored in almost every game last season. Provided he can improve his shooting touch and continue to utilize his size to out rebound his position. There’s not much size on this team, so they will need his rebounding. Sivills could be the X-factor this year.
Tauris Watson - 6’3 G
Last Season Avgs: (21-22 at Gulf Coast State) 18.0 ppg, 3.8 rpg, 1.3 apg | Watson redshirted last season after transferring in as one of the top JuCo recruits. He was All-Conference First Team as a Freshman and scored 8 points in the one game he played for Wofford last season. Taking a redshirt year should make the transition even easier than it may have been. Wofford will need Watson’s microwave scoring ability and will appreciate the energy he brings to the rim every night with a dynamic finishing touch.
Chase Martin - 6’5 G
Last Season Avgs: 12.3 min. 2.1 ppg, 1.1 rpg, 0.6 apg | I liked what I saw from Martin coming in as a true freshman. He was steady, and didn’t force too much onto his own shoulders. Another year in the system should mean his three point shot improves from 25%, and he will be a valuable, versatile guy at 6’5 on the wing.
Kyler Filewich - 6’9 C
Last Season Avgs: 14.5 min. 6.7 ppg, 4.6 rpg, 1.1 apg | Filewich is the lone Center on the roster, outside of walk-on freshman Don Douglass. Due to this, he will be relied on heavily to be a force inside, having to defend the height from the other team. Filewich has the fight and ability to do the tough work inside, it will just be a matter of if the offense flows enough to allow him chances to score inside.
Anthony Arrington - 6’2 G
Last Season Avgs (2 games): 5.0 min. 2.5 ppg, 0.5 rpg, 0.5 apg | Arrington only got into two games last season, in a guard heavy Wofford lineup. A year of D1 experience should be valuable for Arrington earning minutes, along with continuing to grind defensively. He averaged 25 points and 3.8 steals. That is very reminiscent of Kobe Langley, should Arrington meet his potential.
Newcomers
Chase Cormier - 6’2 G
Last Season Avgs (Northeastern): 13.3 min. 3.6 ppg, 1.1 rpg, 1.1 apg | Cormier plays with a lot of energy and quickness. He loves the midrange and will just need to improve consistency from beyond the arc. He’s shown flashes of great vision to go with his quickness as well.
Dillon Bailey - 6’3 G
Last Season Avgs (Northeastern State): 34 min. 15.3 ppg, 4.7 rpg, 2.6 apg | It’s hard to predict what Wofford get from Bailey, in what is going to be another guard heavy roster. Bailey played a lot of minutes last year, and was able to shoot 40% from three. That may be where the Terriers need him to contribute the most, and where he can earn established minutes.
Quentin Meza - 6’0 G
Last Season Avgs: N/A (High School) | Meza was a beast for the state of Utah, earning Mr. Basketball and Gatorade Player of the Year. He can really fill it up and looks to have great court vision as a PG, averaging over 6 assists per game in high school.
Jeremy Lorenz - 6’8 F
Last Season Avgs N/A (High School) | Coach Terry dipped back into a familiar recruiting well for Wofford, Wisconsin, to bring in Lorenz. He brings much needed size to the team, and looks like he’ll be a tremendous rebounder. The Terriers will just hope he can produce, and that they’ll keep him in the building. Hoping won’t transfer out like previous Wisconsin natives Max Klesmit and Jackson Paveletzke.
Belal El Shakery - 6’8 F
Last Season Avgs: N/A (High School) | El Shakery was a late add to the Wofford roster, but he could be an important one. He also brings size at 6’8, 230 but more importantly, has experience playing internationally for Egypt this summer. After averaging a double double in high school, Coach Perry hopes he can bring more of the same in time.
